Crafting the story of the witness stand
SSBS Mock Trial Club
As vice president of the SSBS Mock Trial Club, I trained more than 10 new club members on competition procedures, organized scrimmages and practice sessions, and led the team during tournaments. I managed our club’s WeChat official blogging account, where I posted 3 mock trial case analyses that aimed to introduce mock trial to a wider audience. In writing the articles, I used a novel approach of analyzing the prosecution and the defense’s stance from a psychological perspective, taking deeper insights into how conflicting psychological motives shape the case. In court, competing primarily as a witness, I worked on building characters’ internal logic so that cross examinations could not expose a contradiction the character did not already carry. Most importantly, through constant practice rounds we organized on a weekly basis and tournament prep sessions that lasted well into the night, we were able to foster a closely collaborative team spirit characterized by mutual rapport.
